Who Invented Pretzels?

Pretzels are very popular baked treats that is in a twisted cool shape! All a pretzel is made of is water, brown sugar, wheat flower, yeast, and sprinkled with salt and bake to a golden brown.

But who invented the pretzel? I will answer that question!

Pretzels were invented by monks! In the 17th century french, monks in Paris made these fun treats. The story is, the monks took bread dough and shaped the dough into twirly loops. The shape of the pretzel was supposed to represent a child's arms folded in prayer.

The monks gave the baked goods to children as rewards for being faithful. Pretzels were called pretiola, a Latin word meaning little reward.
